Manitoba Commercial

The Manitoba Commercial Truck (CT) plate has been issued in pairs starting at CAA series in 1997. Most of these plates were made by Waldale except for the CDA and CDB series plates made by Hi-Signs in the early-2000s. Top right corner blue outline bison changed to solid black style in 2013 at CFP/CFR changeover point. Some commercial plate classes are denoted with the blue on white Limited Use (LU), T (truck) or scarce Driveaway/transporter (DA) class stickers.

While certain commercial trucks have been eligible for X, PRP, CAVR or Apportioned plates for decades, most Apportioned trucks used PSV plates with only the occasional CT spotting. The old PSV category was abolished by legislation in March 2019 and final stocks of PSV plates were issued for a short time until depleted in 2020-21. All Manitoba IRP trucks now use CT plates exclusively, their special use denoted by the blue on clear "Apportioned" sticker affixed to bottom center of one plate.

Yet the plates on nearly 98% of MB-based IRP trucks observed in the 2020s are completely devoid of the required type sticker. Significant field observations and study reveal that the sticker simply falls off due to countless tiny trapped air pockets between sticker and plate sheeting. A special series of APP plates (like most other provinces) or at least a better quality material for the APP sticker would easily solve this problem.

Further, the "orange peel" textured High Definition sheeting plates that started in 2019 at the CJC series are themselves also subject to severe peeling and gravel damage, especially when used on Apportioned vehicles.
