The current Nunavut passenger licence plate replaced the previous polar bear design starting in July 2012. These are Canada's first modern type flat plates and feature a graphic background with polar bear, an inukshuk, and the northern lights. Nunavut licence plates use the same 3M font as other jurisdictions such as Minnesota and South Carolina.
