2010 Montana plate returns to tradition

Jan 5, 2010 — Montana’s new general issue license plate went on sale the first week of January, 2010.

The minimalist two-color design represents a sharp turn from the recent trend of lush graphic plates.

Montana last issued white-on-blue plates in 1975, and the “Treasure State” slogan was last used in 1966.

The state map outline has been used since 1933, and is required by state law.
