New Nunavut plates for 2012

Nunavut steps further into its own identity with a new license plate for 2012.

Since separating from the Northwest Territories in 1999, Nunavut has continued to use that territory's iconic polar-bear-shaped plate design for its own plates.

Nunavut registrations are distinguished by the territory name at the bottom of the plate, and an "N" suffix on all registration numbers.

Beginning in July 2012, however, Nunavut motorists either renewing plates or purchasing vehicles will receive this new design.

The new plate retains the polar bear as part of the background image.

The 25 stars on the right side of the plate represent the territory's 25 municipalities.
