Alaska High Plates	Print

As of October 2004, Alaska reverted to the blue on yellow "Last Frontier" passenger plate with the state flag as the standard issue replacing the "Gold Rush" design that has been in use for several years. No additional Gold Rush plates will be issued, but existing plates will be renewed indefinitely. Dirk Starck reports that ERT 999 was the last Gold Rush plate produced.

Starting Jan. 2, 2008, Alaska issued a new design for standard plates to celebrate 50 years of statehood in 2009. These plates were issued through Dec. 31, 2009. The plates are graphic, but registration characters are embossed.

Alaska has returned to the fully embossed Flag - 2 base. Dirk Starck reports the GAA series as somewhat of a low, but he has also seen an FGD series, which would have been from the original batch before the Statehood plates started since the original order of Flag - 2 plates went through FGE 999.

Flag - 2	GBA 700	This is the second run of Flag plates, which started after the Gold Rush plates ended. With the exception of the very earliest plates of this type right after the change back from Gold Rush, all have been fully embossed. These plates appear to have started at ERU 100 in screened form, and then switched to fully embossed in the mid-ERV series. ERV 479 is the highest screened plate reported. ERV 490 is the lowest embossed reported. Rich Cartier confirmed that some leftover sheeting was used, but Alaska will no longer produce any flat plates because of complaints from law enforcement agencies that flat plates could not be discerned in the winter due to road grime. However, the newest base (Alaska Statehood) has screening. Royce reports that the DMV skipped the FAA series. The last plate ordered on the Flag base was FGE 999, but he highest spotted in use are in the FGC series. The remainder of the FGB-FGE Flag plates will eventually be issued in 2010 after the Celebrating Statehood plates end.	Dirk Starck 7/06/10
Alaska Statehood	FUW581	This is the new Celebrating Statehood design base, which started at FGF100. Personalized plates are available on this base. No FK- series seen. Some FT- series were issued before the FS- series, but now most of the FS- series has been issued. The last plate issued in the Statehood series was FUW999, and it was issued to our own Royce Williams.	E. Morgan 7/08/10

Flag - 1	DJW 135	This is the first run of Flag plates, before the Gold Rush issue. All of this type were screened, except for the embossed registration letters and numbers. (no BY-, BZ-, CX-, DA-, DB-, DC-, DD-, DE- seen) Adriaan Bergink has a mint leftover stock plate DJX 626, so it appears that DJX was the last series in the flag issue and DJY was the first series in the Gold Rush issue. Sean reports a DJP in the Gold Rush issue, so there may be some overlaps. DJX 983 appeared on eBay in mint condition, so it was undoubtedly also a leftover stock plate that was never issued.
